How I use Social Media....the good ,the bad, the meh!

It did take me a while to incorporate social media into my business “Look at Me” otherwise known as a “Promotion/ Marketing” strategy for Deco 22 as a fully-fledged introvert this was not something I was comfortable with…very much a reluctant bunny!
Luckily for me my fellow creative nudged me into the social media zone in thier usually gentle “this is for your own good “way, thank you? Thea Smartt Henry
I prefer to have few distractions when I am out, and about so do not have any social media apps on my phone…yes REALLY!  Apart from when I am at some selling events, I generally post at the end of the day or first thing in the morning before I get into the swing of my day, either via my laptop or a tablet. (I find larger screens easier for my dyslexic brain)
I also focus on posting about pieces I have created and inspiration, and of course very rarley show my face!
I am what I am!!!
Now currently I do all the social media marketing for Deco 22, and after a number of years using a variety of social media platforms this is my current relationship with them.

Twitter
……….Tumble weeds!!!
Very rarely go in here usually when I have an event, I pop in post then leave. I am more of a visual person so this may be why....(Expect some posts soon!)
Tumbler
Makes me think of that song from the musical Chicago “Mr. Cellophane” I often forget it is there!

Facebook
Ugggggggghhhh! Is often the sound I make when I log in.
It’s like homemade cake…. stay with me here…I enjoy making cake, I really enjoy eating homemade cake …but HATE the washing up!....but I cannot avoid the washing up, it has to be done. That is my current feeling when logging into Facebook! It feels like such a chore, I have to do and navigating it is frustrating as they always seem to be changing something. The most interaction I seem to get is not from my followers but  from Facebook suggesting I pay to boast a post or purchase advertising. I miss the good old days when I could chuck a sheep at or drop kick someone. … (probably not something I should be doing on my business page!)

Pinterest
My happy place. Really more of an inspiration tool for my work although I do have a board for Deco 22 products as well.
Still enjoy using this platform, I am sure because it is very visual, and I find so many images that are inspiring for my work and life in general.
LinkedIn
One of the recent additions, so far not sure how best to use this platform, currently posting craft-based news on there with a few sprinkles about Deco 22.
You Tube
Another recent addition. Again, not sure how best to use this platform, I am currently having a play with filming some of my work in progress and posting them.

Instagram
Those who follow Deco 22’s Instagram account will probably guess that at the moment this platform is working the best for me regarding a consistent presence for my business. It is very visual focused, and I find it easy to snap a picture while I am working and post later. Currently more people see my posts and my work in progress. The only looming cloud is the fact that it is now owned by Facebook…uuuuuuggggghhhhh!

The key thing for all businesses especially small ones, all these social media platforms are free for a reason, they want something from you, either your data or if you are a business advertising sales. Yes, it is a tool to aid with promoting your work but…and I am talking to myself here as well…..not the only digital platform.

Now I do have a mailing list and a Newsletter, currently “Must do better” Would be on my report card for this!
Did you know I have a newsletter you can sign up for? Probably not because I have made very little effort to promote it!
So for snippets on what Deco 22 is up to, inspiration and upcoming events, sign up to the newsletter as even when you choose to follow a small business like mine on a social media platform, you may still not get to see my work.
