Hmm now who said that? Well actually I do get a lot of stuff done in the C zone, make myself something new to wear( see top below) , read a good book, enjoy some Agents of Shield, Game of Thrones and Firefly , maybe try a new recipe found on Pinterest….(chicken coconut curry being a recent success J )
Let me share with you the story behind two such moments having an impact on the development of Deco 22.
Despite beginning a version of my label in 2005, by 2011 I still had no website. I was uncomfortable with having a site which was not ‘perfect’ (to my students past and present ….sound familiar?) Luckily for me my old LYST business manager introduced me to David Bovis, now the managing director of Duxinone. He didn’t pander to my excuses. He sat with me and made me create a very basic rough website. He then proceeded to throw me into the deep end by clicking PUBLISH!!!! EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!
It took me about a week to figure out how to hide from public view. It was however the push I needed to finally have a web presence, so thanks for the push David!
An updated website with new pieces will be coming soon. Keep an eye out for progress on the website by liking Deco 22’s Facebook page.
I’ve been working in the fashion industry for over nineteen years in numerous design and pattern rooms. When I ventured into teaching it was to teach fashion. So when an opportunity came up to work as a teacher coordinator at City Lit for a year, an office based role I thought …yep ... EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!
Over the year I developed my marketing and promoting skills and found it much easier to promote the talented teachers and courses they taught, than I do when talking about my work. I was then asked to write a short article on clothes making…yep... EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!
This was the catalyst for the reboot of my blogs. I’ve been getting some good feedback, so that’s another positive push.
This year there seems to be more and more “eeeeeeeekkkk” moments, here are a few:
The Visual arts team at City Lit convinced me to finally participate in the staff visual arts exhibition. Dates 14th- 28th May.
LYST (London Youth Support Trust)
And of course my Blogging pal J . http://thiabee.tumblr.com/
